The Model S1 is the world’s first compact, affordable, precision pico-microliter automated liquid dispensing device. Its compact, lightweight, and portable. Small enough to fit on a corner of a desk or inside a fume hood, yet delivers the precision and throughput that no human hand can. It is versatile and can perform a broad range of applications such as drug titrations, cell dispensing, microarrays, spotting, synthetic biology and personalized medicine. And it is affordable, costing about the same as a handheld auto-pipettor.
Inkjet technology for life sciences
The picture above shows a typical inkjet head nozzle design and the range of nozzle sizes available for different applications. Why inkjet technology? Because samples and reagents can be expensive. Handling these fluids in volumes less than 5µL is error prone and inaccurate. And, the productivity and flexibility of assay design needs automation. All of these are addressed by the Model S1 where precision, accuracy, automation are enabled by inkjet based micro-fluidics relieving researchers of the mundane tasks and allowing them to focus on more creative, insightful experiments.
Lab bench space is scarce. With a total footprint of 8” x 8” and a height of only 6”, this compact, automated dispense system fits in a corner of a lab bench or a fume hood allowing researchers to carry out sensitive experiments such as cell based assays and experiments without the fear of contamination. The instrument can also be operated through wifi-direct using a PC or a tablet so the user can be completely hands off.
Portable and lightweight
Weighing in at only 5 pounds and small enough to carry in two hands the Model S1 is as portable as an auto-pipetting system but offers vastly more automation, precision, miniaturization and throughput.
Precision and Throughput
With over 300 micron sized nozzles, dispensing at 10KHz, a 6 order of magnitude 12 point digital titration can be done in 30 seconds which is over 10 times faster, 10 times more precise (in the sub 100nL range) and 10 times cheaper.
Radical yet simple
A 4 fluid pipette cartridge allows the user to pipette four fluids into a single disposable cartridge. The cartridge is then inserted into the dispense system. The typical maximum volume of a channel is 1mL with over 300 nozzles allocated to each fluid, setting a new industry standard for nozzle density, redundancy, precision and accuracy for dispensing

Sophisticated Yet Simple Software
The simplicity of this device is most apparent in its software interface. The windows based software with built in assay templates allow users to run an experiment in 3 simple steps. Both routine assays or novel assays can be run on this platform on a variety of substrates. The software can connect to a central control system to upload new protocols for experiments. User friendly graphical interface for routine or novel assay protocols. SDK available along with Android app for applications requiring wireless operation.
